Characteristics, Ozone Formation Potential and Sources of VOCs in Shandong Province, Eastern China

Between 9 July and 19 August 2016, the air concentrations of 57 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were measured in Shandong Province, eastern China. Seven sampling sites representing urban, coastal background selected for sampling. The data employed to investigate VOCs’ characteristics, ozone formation potential, main sources. During period, VOCs ranged between 15.3 883 ppbv, with a mean 139 ppbv. most severely polluted city was Zibo (833 ppbv), followed by Jinan (33.5 ppbv) Qingdao (32.8 ppbv). Propane abundant species all sites, concentration range 1.05–9.86 Ethene, i-butane, 1-butene, cis-2-butene, n-butane, i-pentane, n-pentane, benzene toluene predominant both urban sites. Propylene equivalent (Pro-Equiv) maximum incremental reactivity (MIR) assess contribution each photochemical formation. results showed that alkenes aromatics active performing key function formation, accounting 43.9–90.7% Pro-Equiv 41.0–93% potential (OFP). ratios ethylbenzene m/p-xylene calculated, local emissions Gasoline exhaust/fuel evaporation, industry process/solvent usage, diesel exhaust/petrochemical emission coal burning dominant sources Province.

We analyzed demographic and clinical data and estimated the incidence of cysticercosis in Shandong Province, China, during 1975-2014. Our analyses showed that a cysticercosis-endemic area is present in Shandong Province, especially in its western regions. Improved surveillance and control are needed to address the elevated risk for cysticercosis in this region.
